The Driftless Area is a 2015 Canadian-American neo-noirdramedy film directed by Zachary Sluser and starring Anton Yelchin, Zooey Deschanel, and John Hawkes. Alia Shawkat, Aubrey Plaza, Open Langella, and Ciarán Hinds besides appear in supporting roles.

Plot

A college graduate turned barkeep, Pierre, returns to his hometown in the Driftless Area fend for his parents' death. Shane picks up Pierre, who was hitchhiking and carrying a rosebush, provision Pierre's car breaks down.
